Validating an old photo of a pterosaur

From the title page of the book: On January 14, 2017, Clifford Paiva and I spoke by phone and agreed that a photograph we had been studying had a genuine image of a real animal. We don't insist that this must have been a species of Pteranodon killed during the American Civil War. Many details do suggest, however, that the six men were soldiers of about that time period and that they were standing near the body of that animal when the photo was taken. Many details in the head suggest a pterosaur, at least related to a Pteranodon, very unlike any bird or any bat. This is an evaluation of the photograph we call Ptp, along with reports of human encounters with similar flying creatures around the world. Copyright 2017 Jonathan David Whitcomb

First paragraph of the Introduction

This book is too small to hold many of the eyewitness reports my associates and I have received over the past fourteen years. It does have an analysis of an old photograph of a huge flying creature, with reasons for believing the photo is genuine evidence for a modern pterosaur. Yet eyewitness testimonies have been the heart of our investigations, so you need at least the summaries of some of the more important reports of encounters between ordinary persons and the larger apparent pterosaurs. Please be aware: Those accounts are only brief summaries of sightings, many of which are encounters in the 20th century.

From Chapter 1

The native guide was ahead of Duane Hodgkinson and his army buddy when the two soldiers were startled by what they at first assumed was a bird. It took off with a run to get airborne, on the far side of a clearing that was about 100 feet across. Then they saw details.

From Chapter 2

In the spring of 2015, I got an email from a man living in Metairie, Louisiana: “I seen one for myself. . . . while at a friend's BBQ. It was sunset, but I am CERTAIN of what I saw. The beast's size was as big as a small plane. It circled around my area a couple of times . . .  The sighting was in June 2013.”
The ultimate shocking nonfiction: Scientific validation for the old photograph that was neglected for decades. This has now been declared to have a genuine photographic image of an extant pterosaur, with layers of evidence for authenticity.

Nonfiction cryptozoology book "Modern Pterosaurs" by Jonathan David Whitcomb
The beginning of an astonishing scientific discovery: a non-extinct pterosaur in our modern  times,  shown in a 19th-century photograph that was not fully appreciated until mid-January of 2017.  How shocking! Read about it yourself in this nonfiction.
